DEFENSE OF SCOTT GOTTLIEB. It's fair to point out Gottlieb's conflicts of interest. It's probably also safe to say, he's no fan of Trump although he's too smart a businessman to say that where we lumpenproles would hear it. I think his real issue is his own personal panic about covid, which as a former public health official, he can't separate from the appropriate "good of the many" perspective.

I heard him say this Spring that shoppers should consider wiping down their groceries with Clorox wipes before putting them in their cars to drive home. That one statement tells you all you need to know about his state of mind--evincing irrational fear. First, he knew enough about the PRC virus experience and the analogous SARS Cov-1 to assume that this was a respiratory droplet spread pathogen. Second, he knows from influenza and common colds that groceries have never been a vector (why now?). Finally, if Cov-2 was so deadly and infectious that people needed to disinfect a box of cheerios, then the mere suggestion of doing so is absurd. No amount of precaution was going to prevent complete global calamity. By the way, he also praised those preposterous disinfecting sprayer trucks roaming the streets of various cities of the world. shrug...ironically, the personal panic-based policies he promoted created the global calamity the virus couldn't...

I'd prefer to believe that Gottlieb is just greedy, but unfortunately I have to conclude he is clouded by his own panic and personal anxiety. I certainly don't listen to him anymore.

I've known about this guy since he was the head of the FDA. He has gone scorched earth on a medicinal plant called Kratom, which has saved my husband's life. He tried to get Kratom scheduled, using only computer models, to show how 'addictive' Kratom is(it's not)and for the first time in history the DEA did not go with the FDA recommendation to schedule a substance. You can find more info on Kratom at the American Kratom Association. Kratom could help get the opioid epidemic under control. Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people have used Kratom to beat their addictions, and it's also used for depression, anxiety, and a whole host of other medical issues. Before he was head of the FDA, he was employed by GlaxoSmithKline, who just happens to have a patent on a synthetic version of mitragyna, the main chemical in Kratom. This guy is a BAD guy. One of President Trump's worst appointments.
